Seeking – Second Sunday of Advent

Text:

Luke 2:15, “When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.”

Devotion:

“Let’s go and see.” How often have we thought about going, considered seeing? Sometimes we have planned to visit family, or a friend. Perhaps a special concert or museum exhibit has come to town. We thought about it, but did not get around to it. We missed our chance. On this first Christmas day the shepherds had every excuse in the world for not going and seeing. It was late. Their sheep would be in danger. Bethlehem was several miles away. How would they find THE stable, there were so many? The sign seemed strange, a baby lying in a manger. Still an angel had told them, so despite the obstacles, off they went, to see this thing.
Advent is still about seeking. We seek to joy and peace the season promises. We seek the companionship of friend and family. We seek these and so many other things despite the obstacles we face. This season may we too go and seek this one.
