This is what the LORD Almighty says: “Many peoples and the inhabitants of many cities will yet come, and the inhabitants of one city will go to another and say, ‘Let us go at once to entreat the LORD and seek the LORD Almighty. I myself am going.’ And many peoples and powerful nations will come to Jerusalem to seek the LORD Almighty and to entreat him.” – Zech 8:20-22
This year we are hosting a prayer challenge at SCC. We are in the midst of a Bible reading challenge, the whole in a year. Now we add a call to prayer. Few of us as the prayer lives we wish we had. Sometimes it is because we get busy and forget to spend significant time in prayer. Sometimes we are not sure what to pray for or are overwhelmed be the needs that we don’t know where to start.
And sadly, sometimes it reflect the fact that we lack faith. Maybe we are not sure our prayers make a difference, or that they are heard at all. Job wondered that in the midst of his trials. There are times when we wonder if God is even there.
Experience has taught me that the first step to extraordinary prayer is ordinary prayer. Once in a while we need to do something for a while before it becomes real. Once in a while we need to pray, and journal that prayer, to see the hand of God a work. Thus, we start 40 days of concerted prayer: focused, daily, and earnest. You are invited to join the prayer challenge 2020.
