Journal Entry Five

Today was a bit of a low key day. We attended morning devotions and staff meeting. Next week I will be the devotion giver which should be fun.

After the meeting Darel gave us a tour of our community here in Chiredzi. He was showing us some of the places we will need to visit. We also were shown the main roads and some landmarks which will help us navigate. We met a local pastor and he traveled with us, well actually we traveled with them as it was his car we were going to get worked on. I believe there is an assumption that we will be come and going here in town by ourselves.

We came back to the office and waited for Alone, our main guide, translator, and organizer of our duties, to show us where Sherry was to meet with the church ladies. Turns out it is one of the places we already visited today a halfway house for boys from the Village. He then was going to show us how to get to the Village, the orphanage. The same place we preached on Sunday, followed him to, and then found our way home, through a trial and error journey. But he spent so much time trying to figure out where we went wrong we never actually made it to the village. The trip ended with him showing us a place where I can take my wife to dinner. (We do have our 49th anniversary while we are here.)

We came home and went next door for a goodbye lunch for Darel who leaves in the morning for the U.S. We had a great time with stroganoff with spinach, and a dessert that was kind of a custard, pudding pie. It was fun. The afternoon saw me heading to a drug store to see if I could find some nail clippers and baby shampoo. There was neither of them, and not much else in the store. So off to our market, Pick & Pay, and found neither their either.

The day ended with the neighbors coming over for evening tea, with grilled cheese sandwiches, and chips. Lots of fun visiting and learning more about our ‘new’ home. There are a couple of game parks near here which have some special camping accommodations. We are definitely going to do that, maybe twice. Sherry and I walked to the gate and did a little star gazing. Showed Sherry the Southern Cross and just enjoyed the evening sky. We are now back in the house and bed is not far off. God bless all. Good night.
