Proclaiming – Fourth Sunday of Advent

Text: Luke 2:8-14, “Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying,
‘Glory to God in the highest,
and on earth peace to men on whom his favor rests.’”

Devotional: Have you ever wondered what a heavenly host sounds like? There are some loud sounds in this world. Jet airplanes taking off make a deafening sound. The “music” at modern rock concerts threatens to bring down stadiums. People that the crowd at a Seattle Seahawks game make it impossible to hear snap counts.
On the night Jesus was born a company of the heavenly host praised God and said. It was impressive enough to cause shepherds to leave their sheep just to visit the place. Their message was simple, praising God.
The picture ought to cause us to proclaim as well. We, just like the angels, have a great message to share. How many people come to see Jesus because of what they have heard from us? How is our proclamation? Do people drop what they are doing to find the savior we announce? Advent calls us to be proclaimers. Advent is proclaiming.
