Second Sunday of Advent, 2014

SECOND SUNDAY OF ADVENT

December 7, 2014

Text: John 1:14 – “ The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

Devotional: Today’s Advent theme is a big word, “Incarnation.” The word has a number of meanings. For the Christian it means that the divine took up residence in the human form. It is one of those concepts which is not easy to understand and has faith at its center. This morning we too consider what it must have been like for the Son of God to become human, to become like us. We also consider why he did such a thing. There are two times of year when this idea is brought to our remembrance. This time of year is one, Christmas is the celebration of the moment in time when God took up residence with us. The second is Easter, when Jesus arose from the grave and took up a new life. This Advent, we celebrate the act of love which called Jesus to become us.
